If you’re travelling through the Klein Karoo on Route 62, do yourself a favour and make a stop at Sophia on the Go in Ladismith. Tucked away at 22 South Street, Astron Garage (Makadas), this charming little coffee shop is full of character, friendly faces and seriously good food.
From the moment you’re welcomed by owner Joy, it’s easy to see why Sophia’s has become a favourite among both locals and travellers. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect place to take a break, grab a bite to eat or enjoy a great cup of coffee before continuing your journey.
The menu is packed with tempting options, including freshly baked quiches, toasted sandwiches, wraps, crisp salads, delicious shakes, smoothies and an irresistible selection of homemade cakes. Whether you’re after breakfast, lunch or something sweet, there’s plenty to choose from.
On our visit, we decided to grab a takeaway, and what a great choice it turned out to be!
The Freshly Made Beef Stir-Fry cost just R58 (also available with chicken at R55) and offered incredible value for money. Freshly prepared, packed with flavour and generously portioned, it made for the perfect quick lunch on the road. It’s one of those simple meals that’s cooked with care and leaves you wishing you’d ordered another.
Of course, no visit would be complete without dessert! We couldn’t resist trying the Peppermint Crisp Cup for only R25, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Creamy, indulgent and packed with that classic peppermint crisp flavour South Africans know and love, it was the perfect sweet ending to a delicious meal.
As if the food wasn’t reason enough to stop, Sophia’s has recently added something extra special to the shop, a beautiful selection of fresh flowers. Whether you’re picking up a bouquet for someone special or simply treating yourself, it’s another lovely reason to pop in.
Sophia’s is one of those hidden gems that perfectly captures the hospitality of the Klein Karoo. Great food, affordable prices, friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere make it a destination worth visiting whenever you’re passing through Ladismith.
